What we do

Seven services. One single idea: that help arrives before the request.

The founding principleFamilies should not have to ask for help. Help reaches them.

The services

Proactive referral

This is the founding principle of the service. Working with the transplant centres, the clinical staff present the service directly to patients and their relatives, with information material available on the wards. The family has nothing to look for.

Accommodation

Agreements with hotels and places to stay in the immediate vicinity of the transplant centres, negotiated one by one and open to every family we support.

Mobility and transport

Support with travel, parking and transport costs. First contacts are under way with SBB (Swiss Federal Railways) for an agreement covering relatives' journeys on the Ticino–Bern, Ticino–Zurich and Ticino–Lausanne routes.

Meals

Partnerships with restaurants, canteens and catering services near the university hospitals: during a long hospital stay, eating well without worrying about it is not a detail.

Orientation

Practical information, logistical support and guidance during the stay: how to get around, where to go, what to expect, who to turn to.

Language support

Italian-speaking contact people to make communication with local services easier, inside and outside the hospital.

Presence

Listening, presence and support in the most difficult moments, thanks also to those who have already been through this journey and know what it means.

Where we work

Patients from Ticino are transplanted at the university centres north of the Alps and in French-speaking Switzerland.

BE

Bern

Inselspital. Heart transplantation.

ZH

Zurich

University Hospital (USZ). Heart and lung transplantation.

VD

Lausanne

CHUV. Heart and lung transplantation.

How support is allocated

Agreements with partners — accommodation, meals, transport — are open to every family supported by the service.

Direct financial support, by contrast, follows criteria set out in a support regulation and is triggered by a referral from the transplant coordinators or the Ticino contact person. The regulation will be published together with the statutes.

The service will start operating with the pilot phase, planned for 2027.
